The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications operators (MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9Mobile and others) in Nigeria to block all lines who fails to link their National Identity Number (NIN) to their sim card.

The Nigerian Communications Commission has given a time frame to all Nigerians to link their NIN to their mobile SIM or risk been delisted by their operator.
HOW TO RETRIEVE YOUR NATIONAL IDENTITY NUMBER (NIN)
To retrieve your NIN
- Dial *346# on the sim you enrolled with to get your 11-digit NIN number.
- You'll be charged N20 for this service, effort to make it free is ongoing.
HOW TO LINK NATIONAL IDENTITY NUMBER (NIN) TO YOUR AIRTEL NUMBER
Step 1 - By USSD
- Dial *346# and press 1 to get your NIN number
- Dial *121*1# to enter your 11 digit NIN number then press send
- You will get an SMS confirming your submission
Step 2 - By SMS
- Send the word Start via SMS to short code 121
- You will receive an SMS response
- Reply with your 11-digit NIN number via SMS to shortcode 121 and press send
- You will be informed once your NIN has been validated/updated
Step 3 - By Website
- Dial *346# and press 1 to get your NIN number
- Go to www.airtel.com.ng/nin enter your number press send to get OTP on your number
- Enter the OTP then input your 11-digit NIN number and submit
You have just successfully link your National Identity Number to your Airtel number and avoid been blocked or disconnected.
