WhatsApp Launches Fingerprint Unlocking Feature Now Available For Android



WhatsApp is at again! There is a new update for the most popular messaging app in the world. This latest update brings a new feature that will allow users to unlock with the fingerprint. Good news to Android users as iOS users welcomed the new update few days back.

The new fingerprint unlocking feature is currently available for Android users who have WhatsApp beta v2.19.221 installed on their device and running Android Marshmallow and above with a device that supports Fingerprint ID authentication.

Once the fingerprint authentication is turned ON, the widget content will be hidden by default. But users can still answer WhatsApp calls and reply to message from notifications since the authentication of the fingerprint is only required when the user wants to open the app and access it.


How To Set Up WhatsApp Fingerprint Authentication For Android

  • Launch WhatsApp and go to Settings (can be accessed by clicking the three dots present on top right corner) > Account > Privacy.
  • You'll find a new option called 'Fingerprint lock' under 'Privacy'.
  • Turn on 'Unlock with Fingerprint' option to enable the feature.
  • Confirm the selection by touching the fingerprint sensor.
  • WhatsApp gets Fingerprint Authentication feature.

Only three (3) options are available for users to authenticate their identity which are; ImmediatelyAfter 1 minuteAfter 30 minutes all visible under automatically lock.

Note: WhatsApp is gradually rolling out the Fingerprint ID authentication feature for beta testers on Android, it will soon be available shortly to all.
